Business As Usual

Sometimes it takes getting fired to get all fired up. What's an ordinary woman like Babs Flynn doing in a extraordinary place like the nightly television news? Walking a picket line, that's what. She's turning management's idea of Business as Usual upside down. And right side up. Double Academy Award winner Glenda Jackson stars in this up-beat, seriocomic story of one woman's triumph over job discrimination. Jackson (A Touch of Class, House Calls, Turtle Diary) excels in playing smart, quick-witted, independent women and her portrayal of Flynn is from that same delightful mold - but with a major twist. We see Flynn become a woman of strength, a transformation described by the Los Angeles Times as "precise and touching." Her metamorphosis begins when a young co-worker (Mona Lisa's Cathy Tyson) asks her to confront their employer, a corporate Casanove who's lifting workplace sexual harassment to new lows. Flynn's reluctant involvement promptly gets her sacked. And seta in motion a chain of protests and picket lines, charges and countercharges, jailings, national media coverage and victory - a brisk, escalating whirl of events heightemed by Flynn's passage from working cog to activist ringleader. It's tough to take on the odds. Tougher still to take them on and win. But it can be done. With humor, intelligence and strength of conviction, Business as Usual shows how.

Hot To Trot

Stockbroker Bob Goldthwait awaits his advisor's yay or neigh! Psst. Want a good stock tip, buddy? Then just follow Don's advice. Some say he has insider information. Others say he has horse sense...and they're right. The source of Hot To Trot's moneymaking, laugh-getting info is Don, the talking horse. Psst. Here's another hot tip: Hot To Trot offers plenty of two-legged goofiness, too. Bob Goldthwait headlines this rambunctious romp and - as fans of Scrooged, Police Academy 2, 3 and 4 and the LP Meat Bob already know - funny is what this gifted comic is all about. Here, Goldthwait characteristivally twitched, stutters and shrieks in the uproarious role of Fred, the stockbroker Don saddles up with for a sprint along Yuppiedom's high-rise fast track. A cluster of thoroughbred talents in on hand as comic stablemates, Emmy Award winner Dabney Coleman (9 to 5, Tootsie) leers and sneers as the conniving stepdad who wants to squelch Fred's good fortune. Saturday Night Live's Tim Kazurinsky, Gilbert Gottfried and Mary Gross (Feds) offer their own unique styles of horsing around, all brought to a merry photo finish under the direction of Michael Dinner (Heaven Help Us, Off Beat). And Don himself, moving his lips without wires, is the happenin' horse who mouths wisecracks that Francis the Talking Mule and Mr. Ed were never hip enough to say. Listen up, party animals. You know it's comedy you're after. So join two of the heartiest party animals around: Bob Goldthwait and Don. They're Hot To Trot!

"A haunting story. Meg Ryan lights up the screen." -David Sheehan, KNBC-TV. Real-life husband and wife Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan are riveting in this omnious thriller. Arlis Sweeney (Quaid) leads a life as simple and unchanging as his native West Texas plains. He stocks vending machines, moving from town to town and from one familiar lover to another. Kay Davies (Ryan) also calls the road her home. Running from a broken marriage, she doesn't know where she's headed, but any place is better than where she's been. Fate brings them together and gives them a future, until a figure from the past - Arlis's father (James Caan) - awakens a memory as deep and dark as a grave: a family history written in cold blood. From the writer and director of The fabulous Baker Boys comes this "stunning psychological thriller" (Rod Lurie, Los Angeles Magazine) that crackles with heartstopping suspense.
