A Cry In the Dark

"A gripping movie that doesn't let go!" - Gene Shalit, Today/NBC-TV. No body. No motive. No weapon. The facts in the Australian murder trial of Lindy and Michael Chamberlain didn't add up. But strangely, other things did. Things like: Bigotry against the couple's religion. Scattershot forensic evidence accepted as fact. And a nationwide hysteria that was the 1980s equivalent of a Salem witchhunt. Much of A Cry In the Dark has the bizarre ring of tabloid headlines. The wholesale abandonment of reason and justice seems too preposterous to believe possible in a free and modern country. Believe it. It's all true, documented in John Bryson's book Evil Angels and transferred to the screen with a wallop that made A Cry In the Dark a widespread choice as one of 1988's 10-Best films. Double Academy Award winner Meryl Streep captured her third New York Film Critics Award and her eighth Oscar nomination in 11 years of moviemaking for her portrayal of Lindy, who lives the nightmare of seeing a wild dog carry off her infant, then endures a travesty of a trial by the courts and media. The remarkable Streep continues to acquire accents as readily as nominations. She's as "fair dinkum" as an Aussie "G'day" - and as mesmerizing as ever. Sam Neill (Dead Calm, My Brilliant Career) shines opposite Streep as Michael. And Fred Schepisi (Roxanne, Iceman) directs this brilliant production whose scale - encompassing 350 speaking parts, 4,000 extras and the vast reaches of the Australian outback - matches its weighty, vital theme. A Cry In the Dark is an out-and-out nerve-jangler. Its uncommon power and effectiveness assure that the next time your hear about a trial that has everyone's imagination winging and tongue wagging, you'll remember Lindy and Michael Chamberlain.

Shrek

The party continues...more Shrek than ever before! All-new extended ending! You've never met a hero quite like Shrek, the endearing ogre who sparked a motion picture phenomenon and captured the world's imagination with...the Greatest Fairy Tale Never Told! The critics are calling Shrek "not just a brilliant animated feature, but a superb film on any level" (Larry King, USA Today). Relive every moment of Shrek's (Mike Myers) daring quest to rescue feisty Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) with the help of his lovable loudmouthed Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and win back the deed to his beloved swamp from scheming Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow). Enchantingly irreverant and "montrously clever" (Leah Rozen, People Magazine), Shrek is ogre-sized adventure you'll want to see again and again!
